After having a long night with your drinking buddies, you have to pay your due on your alcohol overindulgence the next morning when you wake up. There are some lucky people who can jump out of bed after having one too many drinks, but for others, you will likely come around with a raging headache, nausea, dizziness and a feeling that you have gone ill. When you are feeling like that, working out or moving around is probably the last thing on your mind. Who would want to even get out of bed to exercise when you are feeling like the room is spinning?
But should you try to stand up straight and sweat it out? The answer is yes, exercising is actually a great idea when you wake up with a hangover because it can effectively help you get back to feeling normal and better.
Effects of Exercise
Alcohol slows down the activity in our brain because it acts as a depressant to our body, which means that it would also slow down the release of Endorphins, the feel good hormones that help regulate our mood. Due to that kind of effect alcohol has to our body, we wake up the next morning feeling depressed, tired and lackluster. Studies show that exercising for at least 20 minutes will help stimulate our body to release endorphins, which will then stimulate our mood put us in a better mood and state of mind to recover from a hangover, this is why even if you don’t feel like doing it, exercise can greatly help cure that hangover.
The Kind of Exercise that Will Cure a Hangover
Although, not all kinds of exercise would make you feel better. Strenuous exercises like running could exacerbate nausea. You have to do a low intensity exercise that would help restore your energy and mood without making you feel like throwing up. Gentle stretching, yoga, swimming, dancing and light aerobics would be great choices.
